Despair and Privilege
摘要
The chapter offers a critical take on the notion of the “light-hearted pessimism”: adopting an attitude of reflective distance and writing appreciatively about it may be an expression of privilege. It may also indicate a kind of cynicism of the one who voices such appreciation. That engaging in a reflection, especially an academic reflection, of life under the climate crisis may in itself represent a problem, potentially compromising the integrity of the reflection, is not an accidental predicament but rather one that is integral to “light-hearted pessimism”.
