Although social work education in Bangladesh has been running for over seven decades, its contribution to society may be questioned from different angles. The Western model of social work, which Western experts in the 1950s recommended, has not changed much over the years, resulting in a social work curriculum introduced by the universities without considering the needs and problems of Bangladeshi society. This chapter focuses on the limitations of social work education and highlights the challenges it has currently been facing, especially in the face of globalization. The study is based on secondary data collected from different sources. Findings show that social work education mostly fails to achieve its objectives of producing trained social workers for providing social work services to the needy. The study recommends a transformation of social work education based on the ground reality of local society.
