Comprehensive Overview of Field Devices in ICS: Protocol Management, Security Challenges, and Lifecycle Optimization
摘要
The security of Industrial Control System (ICS) field devices is vital for ensuring industrial safety, protecting critical infrastructure, safeguarding data privacy, enhancing cyber resilience, and maintaining regulatory compliance. This chapter examines various types of field devices, including protocolsProtocols such as Modbus, Distributed Network Protocol (DNP), OPC UA, and HART (Pereira et al. (2003) Hart protocol analyser based in labview). It also delves into the anatomy of field devices, lifecycle management, sensor properties, and their comparison to SCADA systems (Anees Ara (2022) Security in supervisory control and data acquisition (scada) based industrial control systems: Challenges and solutions). Additionally, the chapter addresses the challenges of securing field devices in industrial environments, offering practical guidance on mitigating common threats and implementing robust hardware-based security solutions to protect ICS Industrial control systems (ICS)from cyberattacks. By understanding field device security systems, anyone will gain valuable insights into effective security strategies to ensure the safe and reliable operation of industrial processes.
