This chapter analyzes the “youthquake aftershock” of the 2024 UK General Election, characterized by overwhelming support for progressive parties (particularly amongst young women and students), a collapse in support for Labour and Conservative parties, as well as historically low turnout amongst the youngest cohort of voters. Collectively, Labour, the Liberal Democrats, the Greens, and the SNP secured nearly 80% of the 18– to 24-year-old vote, while Conservative support collapsed to below 10%. The analysis attributes this shift to widespread disillusionment with Conservative government policy and Labour’s centrist repositioning under Keir Starmer, as well as failures in youth-focused communication strategies.

摘要
