Religious Education as a Component of Cultural Education. Potentials for Public Education

Cultural education is embedded in the curricula of public educational institutions as a cross-cutting task. Religion is one of the factors that shape culture. This article illustrates how religion can contribute to cultural education and the social participation of individuals. Different learning formats are also categorized, such as religious celebrations in kindergartens, religious culture as a topic and a possibility of participation in religious education. Based on these explanations, the potential of the field of cultural education for interdisciplinary networking of religion-related topics in different school subjects is analyzed.
