This book, part of the Gender Perspectives in Law series, explores the dynamic relationship between theory and practice in contemporary feminisms. As editors, we recognize that theoretical and ideological frameworks must be complemented by critical reflections on the political and legal significance of concrete practices. Accordingly, the volume investigates the longstanding and productive interplay between theory and practice through diverse perspectives and methodological approaches—ranging from empirical legal and political studies to doctrinal analyses, national and thematic case studies, historical and comparative assessments, and both domestic and international viewpoints, as well as conceptual and practical considerations. Thus, the book engages with the historical dimensions of women’s political activism and practices, analyzing the factors that have been particularly influential in shaping women’s political action and asking which elements of past feminist movements remain relevant to contemporary political struggles. In addition, it examines current legal manifestations of gender-based oppression and systems of privilege, while also exploring emancipatory tendencies within modern law, politics, and culture.
