I shall not use these last few notes to propose yet another summary of the main topics and theories discussed in this monograph: perhaps a bit arrogantly, I feel that all the contents were laid down with a decent degree of clarity throughout every chapter and paragraph, and moreover a summary was already provided in the introduction. I would rather take the opportunity to make a plea for the importance of teaching music and music studies at any level of education, from primary to higher. In many countries, music education is facing decreasing funding from public institutions. Economic austerity measures traditionally lead to cuts in arts education, including music, as governments prioritise subjects like mathematics, science, and literacy over the arts. In some countries, public schools have reduced or eliminated music programmes altogether due to limited budgets, particularly in underprivileged areas, hinting that music is after all a superfluous good.
