Smart city’s rapid population growth has surged demand for efficient public transportation systems. Fleet management for buses, which involves monitoring driver performance and optimizing routes, poses significant challenges. Managing a fleet of buses presents numerous challenges for fleet managers, particularly in monitoring driver performance and behavior to enhance operational efficiency and customer satisfaction. Recent technological advancements have enabled fleet companies to oversee their drivers effectively. This chapter explores the design of a real-time fleet management autonomous system for buses, utilizing cloud technology to remotely monitor various indicators including location, fuel level, speed, and passenger count. The system aims to enhance operational efficiency, ensure passenger safety, and improve service quality through real-time data monitoring and analysis. These devices can exchange vital information seamlessly by deploying a network of connected devices embedded with sensors and communicating via the Internet. The system’s performance is assessed through multiple metrics, such as bus occupancy time, fuel consumption, speed measurements, location tracking, and driver identification, across a series of experimental scenarios. The results demonstrate that the proposed system can manage a bus fleet in real-time road conditions with high accuracy and ensure the safety of passengers and other road users. By integrating various technologies, this system provides a comprehensive solution to the complex task of managing a public transport fleet in smart city.
