Fibers in various textile forms (woven, braided, knitted, stitched, and non-crimp) are employed to strengthen composites for diverse applications across the automotive, aerospace, marine, rail, energy, construction, and defence sectors. Fiber reinforcements for composites based on textile fabric exhibit remarkable characteristics, including excellent dimensional stability, subtle conformability, deep draw moldability/processability, light weight, high strength and stiffness, and affordability. This chapter gives an overview on high-performance textile reinforcements and their important role in modern composite materials. It includes fundamental concepts like description of several high-performance textile reinforcements, various textile construction techniques viz weaving/braiding/knitting, yarn types, yarn cross-sections and composite fabrication techniques. In addition to explaining how various factors affect the mechanical and structural behaviour of composites, it also goes over the filament-to-laminate processing methods that are used to transform the filaments into composite laminates. It offers the idea of fiber hybridization, which explains how combining natural and synthetic fibers can enhance cost-effectiveness, sustainability, and performance. This review aims to provide insight into the engineering of high-performance textile-based reinforcements and their use in advanced composite applications across a range of industries, including construction, sports, automotive, aerospace, and many more.

摘要
