Modern medicine is used for the removal of disease from the patient’s body. The triumph of modern medicine has been made through an allopathic revolution that occurred in the mid-twentieth century. Modern medicine is significant for the treatment of ailments. Now, however, in the case of treatment of disease, the majority of drugs. The poor becomes poorer to spend money on medicine. There are fashionable markets for unnecessary medicines. Commoners are helpless. People’s health organizations have spoken about these medicines. They have created pressure on the government to serve its duty in this regard. In this respect, an important role has been played by the All India Drug Action Network, which launched in 1984. The very same year, the Drug Action Forum was established in West Bengal. The latter organization used booklets to make people aware of a range of essential drugs. This chapter considered the activities of the movement to promote essential drugs. It also focused on the evolution of government policy on medicine and assesses how some of these movements have responded to policy developments at national and state levels.
