Electromagnetic radiation is a topic that individuals worldwide possess a plethora of alternative conceptions and students of different ages seem unable to comprehend. People tend to believe that electromagnetic radiation is always invisible, and a source of environmental problems. Immersive technologies contribute to teaching difficult science topics and positive learning outcomes. In this study, we visualized electromagnetic waves of different frequencies and intensities, produced by different sources, by using immersive Augmented Reality. The development of the educational application was based on a focus group study, followed by a pilot empirical study with university students and spatial presence, satisfaction, and inquiry skills were investigated. The results were promising, indicating the possibility that immersive Augmented Reality may support students to change their alternative conceptions about electromagnetic radiation.
