Ligation of patent ductus arteriosus (also patent arterial duct) is considered one of the simplest procedures resulting in rare morbidity and mortality. Complications that occur typically involve surgical principles and anatomic proximity to the area of closure including the laryngeal nerve, aorta, left pulmonary artery, and thoracic duct. This chapter describes complications and ways to avoid and repair unanticipated surgical errors.
