As previously mentioned, Merleau-Ponty, at the time of the Royaumont meeting, was in the midst of developing the notes that would later become what we know today as The Visible and the Invisible, posthumously published. During this period, he began to develop what can be described as a type of ontology. In this work, Merleau-Ponty deepens his reflection on perception and the body, questioning traditional categories and opening up space for a new understanding of being in the world. Moreover, he also reflected on thought, exploring the relationship between the body, perception, and mental activity in a way that was inseparable from lived experience.
