At the Colloquium at Royaumont there were many phenomenologists and analytical philosophers gathered, including Merleau-Ponty and Ryle. Ryle’s presentation was entitled “La Phenomenologie contre The Concept of Mind.” Merleau-Ponty would be one of the debaters. Ryle at first commented on Husserl’s work, for him Husserlian ideas were important when criticizing empiricists who defended associationist theories. Such ideas also served to develop Brentano’s theory on intentional consciousness, among other principles for psychology, such as the demarcation between “conceptual investigations of factual investigations.” Ryle highlights that Husserl demanded that in empirical research, psychologists had as a precedent a clarification of the processes they were really seeking to understand. Prescribing the need for empirical research, for clarifications about the conceptual connections that were entangled in mental processes.

摘要
