Ryle in the last chapter in The Concept of Mind wrote about the role of Psychology and those goals. For him it is important to point out that we can confront ourselves with the idea we have built up of psychologists “with their public promises and their work in laboratories.” He writes ironically that when psychology was born, belief in both worlds was still in vogue, referring, as we have already seen, to the duplicity that would be the mental and the physical. And since there was Newtonian science studying the physical world, there should be another science to study empirically what the mental phenomena would be, and Psychology would emerge.
