Technology for Production of Titania as Welding Electrode Coating
摘要
The article describes the production of pigment and non-pigment grades of titanium dioxide, or titania, on the basis of titanium tetrachloride. The polymorphic modifications of titania, viz. rutile, anatase, and brookite, are described, the scopes of application are listed with the emphasis on welding industry, the main advantages of the usage of rutile as electrode coatings are listed, the difficulties of mining of titania-containing ores during the recent period of time are listed. The process conditions for the production of pigment and non-pigment grades of titania are specified with the emphasis on temperature mode, concentration of acid solvents and other chemical compositions, the four-stage technological process for the yield of titania, viz. obtaining of titanyl sulphate monohydrate; hydrolysis of titanyl sulphate monohydrate; salt treatment of titanyl sulphate monohydrate; calcination of titanyl sulphate monohydrate, is proposed illustrated with the technology diagram. The areas of application of pigment and non-pigment grades of titania are listed.
