Introduction
摘要
This book examines the impact of digital transformation on European society, law and governance, paying particular attention to the evolving regulatory response of the European Union (‘EU’). Emerging from the inaugural International Conference ‘A Digital Europe for Citizens’ (Porto, April 2023), it compiles contributions from leading legal scholars and practitioners, addressing three pivotal pillars of EU digital policy: data governance, digital markets, and digital services. Against the backdrop of European Digital Constitutionalism, the book emphasises the importance of balancing innovation with the safeguarding of fundamental rights, democratic principles, and the rule of law. By exploring issues such as equitable data sharing, contestable digital markets, and the accountability of online platforms, the book provides an integrated perspective on the EU’s digital agenda. Ultimately, it underscores the importance of creating a fair, inclusive, rights-based digital Europe for citizens and businesses alike, a task that becomes ever more pertinent in an evolving geopolitical landscape.
