Intermittent claudication is a symptomatic manifestation of PAD. Its natural history rarely includes limb loss when managed conservatively; progression to chronic limb-threatening ischemia occurs in a very small subset of patients. The indication for revascularization is to improve quality of life and physical function, not to reduce the risk of limb loss. Close follow-up to assure medical compliance, monitor the quality of life, and implement risk reduction strategies to optimize the overall vascular health of the patient is essential.
