Behavioral and Mental Health Considerations for Patients Experiencing Vasculogenic Claudication
摘要
In recent decades, the understanding of the patient experience with claudication has evolved to also include mental health considerations and psychological factors that play a role in terms of risk for developing peripheral artery disease (PAD), barriers to modifying them, and the impact of PAD and its treatment on precipitating or exacerbating mental health problems. To effectively improve outcomes in patients with claudication, a multidimensional approach, that recognizes the intrapsychic and interpsychic factors, is instrumental for holistic care. It broadens the framework of risk assessment, the interventions offered, and the outcomes measured to evaluate treatment success. It is imperative that treatment success for patients with claudication includes wider patient experience and their psychological functioning across the different stages of disease.
