I consider recent brain imaging studies reporting correlation between brain variables of some kind and measures of religious belief and activity. I give particular weight to neurological studies of patients with brain damage, but also include a study of large numbers of normal subjects. The dominant view of researchers in the field seems to be that the areas of and networks in the brain being identified are at least strongly overlapping with those involved in social cognition, rather than being unique to religion.
