World Players and Market of Enzymes Applied to Biofuel Production
摘要
The climate crisis has raised concerns about the environment, promoting the search for alternative chemicals to substitute fossil fuels while decreasing carbon footprint. With that, the biofuel market is increasing worldwide. Consequently, the market of enzymes applied to these biofuels is also growing. Currently, first-generation (1G) bioethanol and biodiesel production are facing challenges due to competition with food-grade biomass, raising concerns about food safety. On the other hand, the second-generation (2G) biofuel market is expanding, especially driven by sustainability and energy security demands. A new biofuel, sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), is showing great advances in the aviation industry, with new enzymes being developed to be used specifically in this field. Each region is promoting biofuel market growth with different policies, incentives, and blending mandates. Some of the major players in the field are the United States, Brazil, China, and Europe. This chapter will present and discuss regional tendencies, landscapes, challenges, markets, and novel technologies applied in the enzymes and biofuels fields.
