Concluding Note: Cross-Cutting Policy Issues
摘要
As editors, we envisioned that academic and student readers alike will now have a sense and appreciation of the contemporary challenges facing Guyana. The issues of concern to social work and sociology presented here represent a microcosm of the phenomenon engaging our attention. Through this book, Guyana at a Crossroads: Diversity, Vulnerable Subgroups and the Promise of Development, we comprehensively explore key socio-economic and social issues confronting Guyana at this pivotal moment in its history. It argues that oil-driven growth will not translate into genuine progress unless it dismantles the structural barriers keeping large segments of the population on the margins. Guyana’s burgeoning oil and gas sector presents a significant opportunity for economic advancement. However, the analyses within these chapters underscore the persistent vulnerabilities and inequalities that must be addressed to ensure that development is truly inclusive and benefits all Guyanese citizens.
