The overwhelming incursion of AI in more and more aspects of everyday life and into broader branches of techniques and science urges to rethink many traditional approaches of human activity and creativity. In the current paper an analysis of a family of patented locking pliers is carried out from the standpoint of task based conceptual design method. Such analyses imply consideration of the prior art, model structure for structure synthesis and a library of primate mechanisms. The involvement of AI will help the designer or inventor to come closer much ideal, perfect and comprehensive result. Several aspects of task based conceptual design are considered on this matter. An example of analyzes and reengineering of a family of locking pliers is tracked as a validation of the developed standpoints and observations.
