This chapter examines the persistence and transformation of the Germanic heroic archetype in the video games from the corpus. It explores how games reinterpret the medieval warrior ethos, that is, strength, loyalty, honor, and sacrifice, through playable avatars rooted in Germanic mythology and heroic literature. The analysis considers for the analysis the games’ protagonists: the Dragonborn (The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim), Kratos (God of War), and Eivor Varinsson (Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla). These digital heroes often embody ambivalent masculinity, shaped by both medieval traditions and modern sensibilities. The chapter discusses how such figures mediate between fantasy and historical realism, offering players a means to engage with archetypal narratives in interactive form. It also reflects on the cultural implications of reviving these ideals in gaming, considering issues of nostalgia, identity, and power. The Germanic hero survives in digital media as a flexible, resonant symbol within a globalized entertainment landscape.

摘要
