The Link Between Lightning Physics and Ball Lightning
摘要
In this chapter, I combine the known facts about the origin of ball lightning with recent data from lightning location systems. The correlation between observations and lightning data shows conclusively that positive lightning from cloud to ground has a much higher probability of producing ball lightning than negative lightning. All ways of producing ball lightning can be explained by one hypothesis: it is always caused by a negative space charge with free electrons. This hypothesis also allows a plausible interpretation of the curious fact that ball lightning often originates from fires. The hypothesis also allows the design of experiments to produce ball lightning.
