In this chapter, I review the collection of ball lightning reports and the information extracted from the anecdotal reports. After listing the typical characteristics, I present several important features in detail: the point of origin, the passage of ball lightning through windows, and the correlation with winter thunderstorms. I then discuss the energy content of ball lightning, its threat to humans, and its appearance in aircraft.
