This chapter explores the crucial role of housing and transportation in shaping social equity and urban development within a nation. Historically, cities evolved around transportation systems and water access, determining the placement of residential, economic, and social infrastructure. The chapter highlights how inadequate housing or poor connectivity to transport networks can lead to social exclusion and entrench the poverty trap, where individuals are discouraged from participating in economic activity due to prohibitive costs. Using the Lifts and Nets Framework, the chapter proposes policies that ensure equitable access to quality housing and affordable, efficient transportation as tools to foster integration, reduce class divisions, and stimulate inclusive urban growth. These policies must be synchronized with education, healthcare, taxation, and infrastructure strategies to create dynamic, attractive, and economically vibrant urban zones that support the middle-class nation vision.
