In this chapter, I draw on work conducted in anthropology and evolutionary psychology and on the importance of the Neolithic revolution. During this revolution, humans formed increasingly large groups and gradually transitioned from a subsistence economy to a production economy. The groups thus formed, which could number hundreds of thousands or millions of individuals, imposed a new way of relating to the world from which no human can truly escape. The individual owes their survival to the group but must also submit to the group’s law. They thus lose some of their autonomy and are forced to compete with other members of their community for survival, thereby contributing to economic growth, which we have seen is antithetical to the preservation of the planet.

摘要
