For numerous cognitive reasons, it is extremely difficult to grasp the severity of the environmental destruction affecting our planet’s ecosystem. In this chapter, I first outline some characteristics of the human cognitive system that make a realistic perception of the planet’s ecological situation impossible. Subsequently, I analyze the most notorious and dangerous degradations in the most objective way possible, in light of what is commonly referred to as the planet’s limits.
