Domestic work is one of the major types of informal jobs employment sectors globally, with millions of women engaged in household labor under precarious conditions. In India, the estimated number of domestic workers varies from 4.2 million to over 50 million, with women constituting the majority of this workforce. Despite their significant contribution, female domestic workers face numerous socio-economic and workplace challenges, including low wages, lack of legal protection, exploitative working hours, and social stigma. This study analyzes the issues and challenges faced by female domestic workers, emphasizing their financial instability, inadequate access to social security, poor working conditions, and vulnerability to exploitation. The research employs a mixed-method approach, incorporating both qualitative and quantitative data, to examine factors such as income levels, migration status, education, and legal protection. Findings reveal that a substantial proportion of domestic workers earn below the minimum wage, work long hours, and lack access to essential welfare benefits. Moreover, migrant workers encounter additional challenges, including language barriers and cultural adaptation difficulties. The study underscores the urgent need for policy interventions to ensure fair wages, legal protections, and improved working conditions for female domestic workers. Strengthening economic empowerment through skill training, social security measures, and labor rights awareness can enhance their quality of life and dignity in employment.
