Abuse in Relationship Among Men-A Qualitative Study
摘要
Intimate partner violence (IPV) includes various forms of abuse, including physical, sexual, and psychological pain inflicted by a current or previous partner (World Health Organization 2021). This violence can manifest in various ways, such as physical aggression, coercive sexual behavior, and emotional manipulation. This study focuses on abuse experienced among couples, specifically focusing on that of young men, who are often excluded in discussions about intimate partner violence (IPV). This research aims to bring insights on the experiences of men who have been victims of abuse. A qualitative study included face-to-face semi-structured interviews of 6 Indian males who fall within the age group of 18–25 years. This study looks at how male victims of abuse see themselves and how others view them when they seek help. The study employed thematic analysis, through which it was found that male victims are more likely to have feelings of isolation, have reduced help-seeking behaviour and experience more severe psychological effects. The study concludes that we must add more researches that look into how society’s ideologies of masculinity affect the mental health of men, especially when it comes to men experiencing abuse in relationships.
