The investigation highlights the contribution of teachers in advocating for the principles of sustainable development within the context of Bangalore higher education institutions. Special attention is given to the training of prospective educators to effectively carry out ESD objectives in their professional endeavours. It has been ascertained that contemporary educators must acquire the necessary skills to actualize the sustainable development goals (SDGs), foster the development of sustainable development competencies (SDCs) in students, and cultivate both individual and collective accountability for societal sustainable development, among other responsibilities. The examination of the incorporation of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in institutions of higher education in the current phase of higher education advancement has been conducted. This includes the incongruity in the content of curricula designed for prospective educators and the existing demands of society, the challenges associated with implementing an interdisciplinary approach in the education of students within pedagogical Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), the lack of preparedness or motivation among educators to integrate the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into their teaching practices, inadequate educational and methodological assistance, absence of well-defined criteria for assessing students’ educational achievements and their capacity to execute professional responsibilities in support of sustainable societal progress, among other issues. It has been determined that the resolution of these obstacles hinges on the transformation of the educational milieu of HEIs and the shift in professional education towards equipping future specialists for their careers in alignment with the principles of sustainable development. This study identified that teachers of HEI play a crucial role in providing ESD with a limited resources and along with lot of constraints.
