Nutraceutical Formulation Based Mixture Extracts of Six Plants with Sedative Effects
摘要
The present work aimed at investigating a new formulation-based mixture extracts from six plants with sedative effects including Cuminumcyminum, Lanandulaveraaugustifolia, Rosmarinusofficinalis, Litseacitrata, Pimpimella anisum, and Foeniculum vulgare. Aqueous extract from these plants was obtained by decocting their mixed powders. Sedative activity was tested in vivo by use of behavioral assessment tests namely chimney, hole board and rotarod tests, while acute toxicity was tested in mice for 14 days. Results showed that herbal mixture extracts from the studied plants exhibited promising sedative effects on mice treated with 200 mg/kg body-weight. Notably, the sedative effect of herbal mixture extracts was found to be similar to that obtained by Clobazam (200 mg/kg) used as a drug reference. Acute toxicity results showed no clinical symptoms in mice treated with 2000 mg/kg of the herbal mixture extracts, which might confirm its safety in animals. The outcome of this work highlights the importance of herbal mixture extracts from the studied plants as a natural alternative source of sedative agents.
