Maximum Likelihood Fitting
摘要
After the NuThor Science Run 2 dataset is prepared, it is fit using a 2D binned maximum likelihood fitter implemented through RooFit. The fitter is evaluated for bias using a large collection of toy datasets. A high-energy sideband is used to constrain the possible contamination by beam-related neutrons. Lastly, the dataset is unblinded and fit using the aforementioned model. The best fit count rate for neutrino-induced nuclear fission events comes out to 17.32 \(+\) 12.26 − 10.00. After evaluating 48,000 background-only toy datasets, the significance is estimated to be 2.4 sigma rejection of the null hypothesis of no neutrino-induced nuclear fission.
