This chapter is devoted to outlining the entire design, commissioning and operation of the neutrino-induced nuclear fission detector–named NuThor. We start with the characterization of the thorium metal plates sourced from Oak Ridge National Lab that act as the neutrino target in NuThor. Then, the design of the NuThor instrument is described. Once successfully deployed, NuThor’s phases of operation are detailed and Science Run 2 is determined to be the most ideal subject for the analysis conducted throughout the remainder of this thesis. Lastly, the expected signal and backgrounds are summarized with an exhaustive explanation of why each signal candidate and potential background source is addressed in the measurement.
