Automatic Mapping of UML to EPC Using Graph Transformation for Improving Business Process Modeling
摘要
Modeling, analysis, and redesign of business processes are crucial for enhancing the performance of organizations and manage their evolving. UML activity diagrams (ADs) are expressive formalisms broadly utilized for modeling business processes. Conversely, Event-driven Process Chains (EPCs) are commonly adopted flowchart-based representations for business process modeling and can be analyzed using a doted Petri nets formal semantics. This paper presents a method for automatic transformation of ADs into EPC models, facilitating behavior modeling across different formalisms. It consists of using graph transformation for mapping the elements of activity diagrams and their semantics to their corresponding EPC models. This transformation connects two major communities—those utilizing UML and those employing EPC—which allows more flexible and thorough modeling and analysis of business processes.
