Rotational Dynamics with Obliquity

We consider in this chapter the dynamics of a rigid body rotating about an internal axis, which makes an angle, called obliquity with the perpendicular to the orbit plane. We consider the free rigid body case, described in terms of Euler’s angles and Andoyer-Deprit-Serret coordinates. The gravitational potential and its expansion are then discussed; we also present a simplified model obtained after averaging and we finally discuss the effect of tidal forces.
