Introduction
摘要
This book consists of a number of essays on Hegel written over the last 40 years. The opening four essays deal with Hegel and preceding and succeeding philosophers. They highlight how Hegel draws on predecessors and criticises them in the light of succeeding historical developments. The essays on Hegel and later theorists show how he exercises an influence upon successors like Marx and Collingwood. Later essays on Hegel and political economy, Hegel and social recognition, Hegel and global theory and Hegel and the end of the end of grand narratives re-read Hegel and show his continuing relevance. The last essay sums up where we are with Hegel today. There are disconcerting features of Hegel’s thought, notably his sexism and racism, but his philosophical style remains productive.
