Otef Aza Residents’ Understandings of Patriotism and Zionism: Pre-and Post-October 7th
摘要
This chapter offers our conceptualizations and examples of ‘Otef Aza style’ patriotism and Zionism, based on the interviews and photographs we collected and analyzed from both study periods. When residents discussed these ideologies, they tended to reflect strong emotions. In our post-October 7th interviews, residents stated that they retained their prior perspectives that they had shared with us on patriotism/Zionism in the first interview. Overall, during both time periods, the secular residents expressed that the ongoing terror attacks and wars had negatively impacted their well-being, which influenced their perceptions of these ideologies. The religious national interviewees, however, expressed their belief that God had promised the Jewish people the land; thus, this religious basis of their patriotism and Zionism gave them a sense of well-being.
