In this chapter, which is deliberately not heavily referenced, we speak from our experiences as an integrative medicine doctor (Carolyn) and researcher and clinician (Kylie), who has practiced optometry, and later, Chinese medicine. Kylie also completed a PhD in Chinese medicine exploring the intersections of Chinese and western medicines, and the applicability of western research methodology to a very different medical system. In the first section, Carolyn will share her approach to the practice of integrative medicine, and how she integrates medicinal cannabis (MC). In the second section, Kylie will discuss what she sees as some of the gaps in research in MC and what is needed, as well as her thoughts on the evidence-based medicine (EBM) approach.
