Numerous studies have demonstrated the substantial influence of temperature on plant growth, quality, and productivity. This chapter elucidates the different biological phenomena in plants involved in the perception and response to temperature changes in the environment of the organism. The chapter sheds light on the role of various components in temperature sensing, signalling and acclimation. Response to various ranges of temperature—ambient and stressful—is discussed. Temperature is an essential cue used to entrain plant growth cycles, and in the context of modern challenges faced by plants with regard to rapid climate change due to anthropogenic interventions, understanding the mechanisms in plants related to temperature becomes crucial to address sustainable agricultural practices, food security issues and preservation of ecological niches.
