Cognitive-Behavioral Case Conceptualization with Black Americans
摘要
Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) has a strong emphasis on case conceptualization, choosing measures that have reliability and validity, and monitoring client outcomes. This chapter focuses cognitive-behavioral case conceptualizations for Black Americans and selects measures that focus on Black clinical and social outcomes, as well as monitoring the Black client’s response to cognitive-behavioral interventions. This chapter discusses the use of qualitative feedback and traditional (symptoms, quality of life, strengths) and race-specific measures that aid in the case conceptualization of Black American clients. The relationships among qualitative feedback from Black clients, constructs measured via scales, and the RESPPECTUS principles are described. The role of structural factors in cognitive-behavioral case formulations for Black Americans is discussed. This chapter also discusses how the Cultural Trauma Scale (CuTS) can be used in cognitive-behavioral case conceptualization of Black Americans. Two versions of the CuTS are located in the appendixes C and D of the present text. The chapter concludes with an example of cognitive-behavioral case formulation for a Black American client named Rodgerick.
