Moving away from fossil fuel-based energy sources is crucial in the quest to alleviate the effects of climate change and herein is the need for this transition to external renewable energy. Within this chapter, resource mapping for solar power generation in the Indian Railways has been pioneering framed innovative assessment technology tool. Indian Railways should go green by installing more solar panels on their existent facilities like rooftops of the stations to maximize their energy consumption efficiency while minimizing the amount of CO2 released. The chapter also clearly outlines the variable nature of solar radiation and how that has to be factored in for optimization planning. The said strategies include exploration of the geographical radiation data of the various railway zones and assessment essential assets including platforms and passenger sheds for the installation of solar panels. By making practical calculations of the areas required for installations, the relevant capital costs, and the respective energy outputs, it is possible to provide a complete how-to guide for the implementation of solar power systems which includes financial forecasts and break-even calculations. 摘要

The proposed insights are intended to help the Indian Railway Urban Development authorities and stakeholders plan for sustainable energy use in the country’s railway sector.
