Smart furniture has potential in supporting independent living and improving the quality of life of various users. This paper introduces a smart chair prototype, originally designed with the input of people who are ageing. The prototype consists of a pressure sensing chair that is connected to an Android device with two activation games. In order to verify and clarify its added value to users and to further define the prototype requirements according to users’ perspectives, an online survey with video demonstration was performed with two potential user groups: end-users and health care professionals as secondary users. The healthcare professionals who took the survey had diverse professional backgrounds. Most of the end-user respondents were older adults (65+). Survey results indicated several potential benefits for users, including enhanced physical and cognitive abilities and improved mental well-being. These would be achieved through the activation and stimulation the prototype provides. Many improvement ideas were also pointed out by both end-users and healthcare professionals. Most of these were about additional functionalities and modularity, for example wider selection of software and customization of the chair according to user. The online survey was seen as a good addition to user needs mapping in the iterations of the co-creation process.
