Electric power interconnection often called as shore side electricity (SSE) or Onshore Power Supply (OPS), or ‘cold ironing’ of ships at berth is becoming a mandatory means towards greener shipping throughout the Globe with European Union being a pioneer. This paper makes an effort to investigate the opportunity of synergies between Italy and Greece in implementing shore side electricity in an effective manner. To this end, significant challenges in terms of technical but also energy market compatibilities between the two countries are analyzed and discussed. Within this context, a joint framework comprising common technical specifications of SSE based on the mooring type along with a common pricing policy between the two countries is outlined.

摘要
