The pandemic crisis had a major, albeit uneven, impact on metropolitan economies. This chapter analyses the evolution of the labour market (employment and unemployment) in the main Spanish metropolitan areas in the period 2019–2024, in order to analyse its differential evolution and the factors that conditioned it both during the crisis and in the subsequent recovery. The results indicate that the direct impact of the crisis was very diverse, due both to the previous economic specialisation of each metropolitan area and to its degree of insertion in global economies and flows. At the same time, the subsequent recovery capacity was conditioned by the nature and characteristics of the policy initiatives developed in each metropolitan area aimed at mitigating the impacts of the pandemic and economic reactivation, and by internal factors related to the territories’ resilience linked to their innovation potential and the capacity of the economic sectors to adapt to the new conditions presented by the pandemic context.

摘要
