Cameroon has recognised the right to a healthy environment in the preamble of its Constitution, which states that every person shall have a right to a healthy environment. Every citizen shall have the duty to protect the environment. The States should ensure the protection of the environment. As human rights are indivisible and interdependent, a healthy environment is necessary to fully enjoy human rights, such as the right to water. The right to water is recognised by the United Nations General Assembly Resolution 64/292 of July 28, 2010, as a right essential for the full enjoyment of life and all other human rights. Nevertheless, scarcity of water has led to environmental pollution and health impact. The question is has the fundamental right to water been fulfilled to ensure the enjoyment of the right to a healthy environment in Cameroon? This chapter determines whether the right to water has been fulfilled to ensure the realisation of the right to a healthy environment in Cameroon. It adopts the doctrinal approach and focuses on the analysis of Cameroon’s legal framework. It depicts the indivisibility and interdependence nature of the right to a healthy environment and a fundamental right to water. Finally, it evaluates the measures put in place for the fulfillment of the human right to water and how they have contributed to the realisation of the right to a healthy environment in Cameroon.

摘要
