Astrobiology in Peru: Early Achievements
摘要
Astrobiology seeks to answer three fundamental questions: What are our origins and how have we evolved? Does life exist beyond Earth? And what is the future of life, both on our planet and elsewhere? Scientists aim to investigate these questions through seven key objectives that must incorporate various scientific disciplines to generate new knowledge. It is therefore important to highlight the contributions of Latin American countries to the scientific community in each of these areas. This section briefly describes the contributions of Peruvian astrobiologists—from the establishment of the Astrobiology Group of Peru (GAP) to the formation of the Sociedad Científica de Astrobiología del Perú, SCAP (Scientific Society of Astrobiology of Peru)—a journey marked by significant challenges and an inspiring example for young scientists in a country where science is not a top national priority. Nonetheless, astrobiology has enabled the unprecedented integration of multiple disciplines into joint research projects.
