The book Astrobiology and Planetary Sciences in Latin America represents the first major collaborative outcome among scientists from different countries in Latin America, as well as the Latin American Astrobiology Network (Red Latinoamericana de Astrobiología), which was formally established in 2018. Its primary objective is to showcase to the international scientific community the advances in research, education, and public outreach in astrobiology and planetary sciences developed across the region. The first two chapters provide a global context, highlighting key initiatives in the United States and Europe, as well as the central role of the Centro de Astrobiología (CAB) in Spain as an important reference point for the development of research projects throughout Latin America. The subsequent chapters present national case studies that reconstruct the evolution of these disciplines in various countries, emphasizing the region’s cultural richness, unique challenges, and vast scientific potential. Although most regional initiatives have traditionally been documented in Spanish, this English-language volume aims to elevate these efforts to a global stage. The final chapter also acknowledges the significant contributions of countries such as Uruguay, and Venezuela, through the work of the Latin American Astrobiology Network. This volume invites scientists, educators, students, and science communicators to join a Latin American community that is working with dedication and excellence toward the advancement of astrobiology and planetary sciences in the region, while also enhancing the international visibility of its important scientific contributions.
