Microwave Processing of Dilute Magnetic Semiconductors

This chapter delves into MW processing of spintronic materials, specifically dilute magnetic semiconductors (DMSs). A brief description of DMS is followed by the MW-assisted synthesis of dilute magnetic semiconductors which include both the group IV semiconductors and groups II–VI compound semiconductors. These are polycrystalline Mn-doped SiGe alloys and polycrystalline ferromagnetic Zn1-xCoxOy. This processing technique has demonstrated the extension of equilibrium solubility of Mn, by several orders, in SiGe alloy. A detailed structural and magnetic characterization of both the systems is given in this chapter.
